Friday, March 31

I have not posted in a few days because where I am working has been bought by another company, and also my girlfriend has changed jobs as well. So many changes going on has messed up my schedule. I'm kinda stressed out. I am not usually up this early, and my level is 69 this morning. I will be glad when things settle down again and I know if I am going to still have a job, and if so, what hours I will be expected to work...etc.
I guess I will find out on Monday, when we are officially on the new payroll.

Monday, March 27

Yesterday I woke up with a level of 59. I spent quite a few hours practicing my guitar like I do most days I have off. I must have eaten way too much yesterday though, because I ended up going to bed early because I felt so tired. I woke up today at 249...YIKES! My level must have been way-high all night long. I guess doing lantus only is not going to work for me.

Saturday, March 25

Go figure, I did my lantus at night like I am supposed to, and my level is 75 this morning. I have been trying to eat less at night time, but that seems to be when I get hungry and pig out. I think it's the television commercials showing all the great looking food in the evenings... It makes me feel like pigging out. I don't really get hungry during the day when I should eat.

Today I went on a good 30-45 minute walk up and down some hills to get a good cardio-vascular workout... Then I went and cleaned out the car, vacuumed it, and even washed it. It is warming up outside finally, and the sun even came out once in a while today. That makes a big difference in wanting to get out there and be active!

Friday, March 24

I went to Jam Night at the Crystal Saloon last night, had a few drinks, played guitar and bass for a few tunes, and then fell asleep on the couch when I got home... and I forgot to do my Lantus shot. My morning reading was 289.
OOOOooppps...

Thursday, March 23

My reading this morning is 107... that is awesome! I tried to run last night for a while after work, and it was very cold out. I lasted about 10 minutes. Ok, I really need to get in shape, that is obvious!

Tuesday, March 21

Here are my readings since I started this blog. The times are 1 hour earlier than the actual test times shown because the time on my meter was not set right..... I have fixed it now.

I also realize that the reports my meter compiles are based on people who have a "normal" schedule, for instance having breakfast, lunch and dinner at "regular" times of the day.
I get up around 10 AM and go to work at 11 AM until 7 PM... then stay up until about 2 AM.... In other words... not "normal" times.

My Doctor just wanted my morning "fasting" readings for right now, so I will just list them like this:

3/16 ~ 106
The first morning after the doctor's appt.

3/17 ~ 61
I was sick and did not eat well the night before.

3/18 ~ 166

3/19 ~ 229

3/20 ~ 257

3/21 ~ 88
I woke earlier than usual today because I had an appointment with a "behavioral specialist" today. She wants me to start doing exercise on a regular basis, and keep logs of it.

So far, I walked back home from the doctor's office... (about a 5 minute walk) not much yet...

3/22 ~ 220
Well... that one is not so good... looks like I better start my exercise routine today!

Friday, March 17 ~ Greetings!

My Name is Jeff, and I am a type 1 diabetic.

I went to the doctor for the first time in over a year because of the wonderful health care system we have here in Vermont. In short, I could not afford to go to the doctor because I got a raise at work. (Strange, but true!) I found that if I work less hours, I am again eligible to receive state health benefits. I could go on and on about how wrong I think this is... but I won't... I will just shut up, and play the game.

Anyway, I have decided to start doing what it takes to keep myself healthy, and that obviously will involve some behavior modification. This blog is my attempt to start a regular regiment of testing my blood-glucose levels, and recording them here along with other information that will be helpful in developing a good regiment for keeping my diabetes under control.

Here we go, this the first day of the rest of my life!
