Waking BG ~ 289

I have been slacking for a few months because of a new band I have joined, and a corporate takeover that happened at where I work. PShift bought VTLink, and totally changed everything that made it a good job... they are liars and rip-offs! I am now unemployed so I should have more time to take care of myself.

Sunday, April 30

My current reading is 190, but that is after a couple cups of coffee with sugar... I forgot to test my waking bg this morning.

Yesterday was a beautiful day here in VT! Jenn and I went to Johnson, Morrisville, Hyde Park, and we went just general crusing for awhile, and then came home and worked in the yard around the apartment building. Using the new leaf rake to remove the winter debris, the dead leaves, and rocks was a workout ...so I got some exercise!

I got my mountain bike fixed on Saturday, but then it rained for the rest of the weekend... figures.

I have kinda been slacking on the carb-counting... but I have been eating healthier for the most part. I have not bought any Ben and Jerry's, for example! ....and I do read the lables and get the low-carb stuff when I go grocery shopping. At least the headache I was getting have stopped!

I did manage to get my mountain bike fixed, but then of course it rained all weekend...
I did go grocery shopping, and get healthy stuff... I have been trying to stay with low-carb foods.
I have been slacking, though. This keeps happening to me!
I need to stick with this, I think I need to just stop being so lazy!

Waking BG ~ 83

OOps.... missed some meals, then forgot to count carbs again, but that is because I was very active today moving around a bunch of stuff, and storing it in our storage shed. I got some exercise today at least!

I need something to keep me from getting the urge to eat, so I have started re-arranging the place and setting up some new computers and getting rid of old slow ones... I think I just need to keep busy!

I messed up later though by eating some pizza leftovers from the fridge. I'm sure it was way over my carb quota... (doh!)

Sunday, April 9

Sunday, April 9 ... 122 waking BG
I still feel very tired for some reason, and the headache is still there a little. I also noticed my right eye is all puffy and swollen under the eye for some reason. I wish I knew what is making me feel crappy like this!

I felt a lot better after I got up and going today. We went grocery shopping today, and I bought a bunch of healthy, low carb stuff for dinners and snacks for more or less the whole week.
I had quite a few things that I didn't count to eat today, but I did go for a 1/2 hour walk today, and I am now set up to eat healthy all week.

I kinda took a day off of the carb counting.... But I had mostly healthy stuff.
I probably had too much to eat today though... But tomorrow starts a new week, right?

Saturday, April 8

I woke up and went out for breakfast at the local diner with my girlfriend. I had eggs with bacon, ham, sausage, and home fries. I also had 1 1/2 banana walnut pancakes. (I did skip the toast!)
I forgot to test for my fasting reading this morning... but I was at 231 right after eating.

Went for a good 45 minute walk, and became very hypo afterwards. I almost passed out (fell asleep) on the couch from feeling very tired after my walk.... I dropped to 55 bg!

For Lunch at 4:30 pm (late)

Today I am starting the Carb-Counting diet... Here is my Meal Plan that I am to use as a guide.
My waking BG was 210 ...Probably high from the Cap'n Crunch cereal I pigged out on last night. I ate a bunch right out of the box after a I ate a regular bowl of it.... Damned late-night munchies struck again... Tonight that extra stuff has to stop!

I had a snack-bar for breakfast at about 11:30 am: (20 g)
And several cups coffee of course...

Lunch at around 2:30 pm

Wednesday, April 05

Today I'm going to Copley Hospital to see the nutritionist. This is where I will learn the proper things to eat for my diabetes...Oh boy! This is probably my most dreaded part of this disease... Having to eat healthy instead of what I really want to eat.
My level this morning is 172. I'm getting back to normal after missing my insulin for a day.

It was nice to meet my nutritionist today... She is going to be a tremendous help, I can tell already! I am going to start really using this blog a lot more now to keep a record of my carb-counting diet. I will now try to do a post for every day, with several edits a day to keep track of my meals, exercise, and medication for every day.

For "Lunch" at about 5 pm I had a chicken salad sandwich with two slices of pepper-jack cheese, and two slices of whole grain bread... and a snapple ice tea, and two granola bars... I ate the second bar because I was still hungry.

For dinner I had a roasted chicken breast, some broccoli with cheese sauce [7 grams] of carbs.. and some field peas [19 grams].. and about 4 potato chips [8 grams] for a total of 30 grams of carbs for dinner. Also, only about 10 grams of fat too.

I hope this carb counting gets easier... This is one of the parts I really was dreading as I learned about how to manage my diabetes... I really hate the thought of having to follow a diet! I NEED to though... So here we go! (YAY!) =-/

2am: Had a bowl of cereal... about 25 more grams of carbs. I'm doing my nightly Zocor and 60 units of Lantus.

Tuesday, April 04, 2006

Tuesday, April 04

This morning my fasting reading is: 213.
I also started doing Zocor two nights ago for my high cholesterol. It should start to settle down again for me at work now again, since the new owners have officially taken over now. There will be some changes in the office probably, but at least the transition is over now....That was actually quite stressful.
I did manage to get some exercise over the weekend. I went walking and investigating some dams and waterfalls in Morrisville with my girlfriend. I also bought a used Ibanez guitar for $160.00... it was a nice weekend!

Sunday, April 02

Yesterday was my 5-year anniversary of being diagnosed a type 1 diabetic. I went to the pharmacy, and guess what... they claim my prescription refills have ran out on my lantus, and I need to have my doctor call it in....So I have not done my lantus. I am waking up with a level of 220. It figures this would happen on the weekend! Of all the stupid BS!! I told them that my diabetes has not gone away, so why should my prescription run out? How freaking stupid is our medical/pharmaceutical system? I could see if I had a prescription for some addictive drugs with high black-market resale value... but this is INSULIN, for christ's sake... not morphine!

Friday, March 31

I have not posted in a few days because where I am working has been bought by another company, and also my girlfriend has changed jobs as well. So many changes going on has messed up my schedule. I'm kinda stressed out. I am not usually up this early, and my level is 69 this morning. I will be glad when things settle down again and I know if I am going to still have a job, and if so, what hours I will be expected to work...etc.
I guess I will find out on Monday, when we are officially on the new payroll.

Monday, March 27

Yesterday I woke up with a level of 59. I spent quite a few hours practicing my guitar like I do most days I have off. I must have eaten way too much yesterday though, because I ended up going to bed early because I felt so tired. I woke up today at 249...YIKES! My level must have been way-high all night long. I guess doing lantus only is not going to work for me.

Saturday, March 25, 2006

Saturday, March 25

Go figure, I did my lantus at night like I am supposed to, and my level is 75 this morning. I have been trying to eat less at night time, but that seems to be when I get hungry and pig out. I think it's the television commercials showing all the great looking food in the evenings... It makes me feel like pigging out. I don't really get hungry during the day when I should eat.

Today I went on a good 30-45 minute walk up and down some hills to get a good cardio-vascular workout... Then I went and cleaned out the car, vacuumed it, and even washed it. It is warming up outside finally, and the sun even came out once in a while today. That makes a big difference in wanting to get out there and be active!

Friday, March 24, 2006

Friday, March 24

I went to Jam Night at the Crystal Saloon last night, had a few drinks, played guitar and bass for a few tunes, and then fell asleep on the couch when I got home... and I forgot to do my Lantus shot. My morning reading was 289.
OOOOooppps...

Thursday, March 23, 2006

Thursday, March 23

My reading this morning is 107... that is awesome! I tried to run last night for a while after work, and it was very cold out. I lasted about 10 minutes. Ok, I really need to get in shape, that is obvious!

Tuesday, March 21, 2006

Tuesday, March 21

Here are my readings since I started this blog. The times are 1 hour earlier than the actual test times shown because the time on my meter was not set right..... I have fixed it now.

I also realize that the reports my meter compiles are based on people who have a "normal" schedule, for instance having breakfast, lunch and dinner at "regular" times of the day.
I get up around 10 AM and go to work at 11 AM until 7 PM... then stay up until about 2 AM.... In other words... not "normal" times.

My Doctor just wanted my morning "fasting" readings for right now, so I will just list them like this:

3/16 ~ 106
The first morning after the doctor's appt.

3/17 ~ 61
I was sick and did not eat well the night before.

3/18 ~ 166

3/19 ~ 229

3/20 ~ 257

3/21 ~ 88
I woke earlier than usual today because I had an appointment with a "behavioral specialist" today. She wants me to start doing exercise on a regular basis, and keep logs of it.

So far, I walked back home from the doctor's office... (about a 5 minute walk) not much yet...

3/22 ~ 220
Well... that one is not so good... looks like I better start my exercise routine today!

Friday, March 17, 2006

Friday, March 17 ~ Greetings!

My Name is Jeff, and I am a type 1 diabetic.

I went to the doctor for the first time in over a year because of the wonderful health care system we have here in Vermont. In short, I could not afford to go to the doctor because I got a raise at work. (Strange, but true!) I found that if I work less hours, I am again eligible to receive state health benefits. I could go on and on about how wrong I think this is... but I won't... I will just shut up, and play the game.

Anyway, I have decided to start doing what it takes to keep myself healthy, and that obviously will involve some behavior modification. This blog is my attempt to start a regular regiment of testing my blood-glucose levels, and recording them here along with other information that will be helpful in developing a good regiment for keeping my diabetes under control.

Here we go, this the first day of the rest of my life!
